Unable Obtain An IP Address - Running OSX 10.7.5

And what does IT connect to?   SOMETHING on your network must be providing wireless services.

It connects to the hotel wifi internet service right now.

Aaaaaah.  OK.   See, lots of important facts showing up now.

What you’re going to need to do is set static info on both your Mac and WD.

On your WIFI connection on your MAC, you’re going to need to look to see what network it’s in.  Then pick a different network.

Just use:

MAC:  10.x.0.1

WD:    10.x.0.2

where the X is something different than your WiFi connection.

Use a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 for both.

On the WD, use a DNS of 10.x.0.10 and a gateway of 10.x.0.11.

The WD will fail the connection test.  Just disregard it because, unless you know how to configure routing on your MAC, it will fail no matter what you do.
