I think you’ll have to call WD about that…
If the UK wasn’t in the EU, i’d say prolly pretty soon… but the EU has some crazy regulations, so most electronic stuff doesn’t usually hit EU countries until at least 6-8 months after a US release (with some exceptions of course)…
Just looking at Amazon - the UK model first appeared at Amazon UK on 16 Sep 2009. The first review went up on the 16th October 2009.
Amazon USA doesn’t list the date when this item first appeared, but the first review there is for the17th October 2009.
The 1tb hub was actually available 3 months earlier at Amazon UK than Amazon USA.
The ‘mini’ first appeared at Amazon USA on 17th August 2009, and Amazon UK 3 days later.
So hopefully no 6-8 month wait.
I e-mailed WD late last week to ask when it would appear in the UK - I’ll post here when I get a reply.

You’re confusing the “WDTV Live HD Media Player” with the “WDTV Live Streaming Media Player”.
The latter was just released last week, not in 2009.
Bahahahaha. American ignorance at its finest.
Releasedates depends on market maturity, size and condition of sales and support organisation etc etc. It has very little (probably nothing) to do with EU’s “crazy regulations” (which I suspect have their equally “crazy” counterparts in the USA).
Some electronics are released in Europe before the USA, some at the same time, some later and some never.
(The only sure thing is that the japanese get the coolest stuff before everyone else
Regarding the WD TV Live: here in Sweden (which is part of the EU) online retailers are listing it as to be in stock next week.

No, I’m not confusing anything at all.
All of the dates and models I gave were for the same models respective release dates at Amazon UK and Amazon USA.
I’m not saying the new player has been released in the UK yet. I’m saying past players have been released in the UK and US at roughly the same time, so I expect the new model to appear at Amazon UK soon.

Not really… granted we have pretty crazy regulations over here too, but the fact is it’s a lot harder to sell a product in Europe if your an American company than it is in other parts of the world. It takes longer to get things approved etc. - that being said some products are released earlier than others because the company may decide to start the process earlier, or the specific product might not be subject to specific regulations. Other products are made by companies based in Europe and don’t have the same burdens. There are a lot of factors that go into international business.
Just had a reply to my e-mail to WD about the UK release date.
At the moment they don’t have one.
However…

Don’t know if that’s just guesswork. Time will tell.

Ahh. Ok! I follow now. Sorry! :)
I also want to know if it will ever get released in Gotham City or Asgard as well…

Hmmm.
Are they just guessing? ETA October 2011.

There certainly appear to be a lot of stores expecting it.

Some people here in the UK may be interested in this:

Note on the bottom line of the keywords section it says “BBC iPlayer”.

I’ve been checking the WD UK online store waiuting for this to show up.
Just checked this morning and it’d still not there, _ but _…
The only media player left is the WDTV Live 1tb Hub.
That’s surely good news. I can’t imagine they’ll want to leave that particular gap there for too long.
