Two WD Green 3TB broke at booting

Hello,

Today I tried to turn on my PC but it froze at the POST screen every time.

There was also a weird noise coming from the hdd bay of my PC.

Apparently my two WD 3TB GREEN drives both broke at the exact same time.

One is from 26-nov-2012 and the other from 02-feb-2013.

All my other drives are working perfectly fine.

I already tried different cables but nothing changed.

PC SPECS:

CPU: INTEL CORE-i7 3820

MOBO: GIGABYTE GA-X79-UD3

RAM: 4 x 2GB Corsair XMS DDR3@1333mhz

PSU: 800watt Aerocool

GPU: Gigabyte GTX580

Everything is running at stock clock speed (it always has).

How are the drives connected: individually or RAID? Are you trying to boot from one or both? I have to mention that WD recommends that Green drives be used as secondary or data drives. If these are not the boot drives, will the system boot with them disconnected?

Search for a “Hiren’s bootCD” ISO image online. It contains many recovery tools which might help you in this situation.

Thank you for your quick reply.

They are connected individually. (no raid)

I am trying to boot from another drive but it is stuck at the post screen. (I only used the drives for storage, no software or operating system)

The PC boots if both drives (which worked fine up until now) are disconnected.

It also sounds like the drives are continiously going on and off but they make a strange ssssss noice which they never did before.

Hi you need to get the Wd data lifeguard tools for dos put it on a cd and boot from it. Then run a test on the drives do one plugged in at a time, if and I imagine they will come up with errors. Go to this page to run a warranty check and start your RMA. This is to check warranty and start RMA   http://support.wdc.com/warranty/index_end.asp?lang=en  . This is a link to the data lifeguard for dos. http://support.wdc.com/product/download.asp?groupid=608&lang=en
