Two different issues, are they related?

I live in the US and I have a My Cloud Home device where I store pictures & videos. I purchased the device so my parents, who live out of state, can access the content.

Recently, my parents were logged out of the app and have been unable to sign back in. My mom has her own email sign in and I’ve been able to sign in with that account at home (where the device is connected). She has not been able to sign in from where she’s at, the app keeps giving her an error.

Simultaneously, my ISP has reported multiple malicious IPs trying to access the My Cloud Home. According to the ISP provided WiFi app, these IPs are from Belgium (definitely not where my parents live).

Any chance these two things are related? Does it sound like my parents are getting access blocked by the ISP, or is there a legitimate threat trying to access the drive?
