Ts, m2ts and mkv 1080p stuttering

I have problem with above file types at resolution of 1080p. TS files stuttering a lot no matter what fps is used, and after minute or less everything became normal. MKV files at 23.976 fps are nice and fluid, but at 29.97 fps motion is not fluid anymore. I tryed setting HDMI output to 1080p 60hz, 50, 24 with no luck. Anyone with similar problem?

By the way, for all people who had problem with latest firmware upgrade (1.02.21) and could not see external hdd i solved problem by deleting partition and format it again on pc.

same problem here +1

I have the same problem with my videos in m2ts 1080i.

Same problem with a 1080 matroka… :frowning:

How are all of you playing these files – from a local hard drive, network share (and if so, wired or wireless) or media server?  And what is the max bit rates of them? (not average – view them in a player like VLC so you can watch the rates as it plays).

Same thing here, hooked my new WD TV Live up this afternoon, getting stuttering (audio worse) from the same formats through network share… I’m wired 10/100 through a router to a WHS. The same server streams to the Xbox 360 or LAN PC as well with no issue. I uploaded one of the .m2ts files I was testing with on my Rapidshare if anyone wants to check it out. http://rapidshare.com/files/374510458/hd_other_sony_play_doh.m2ts

I had stutering with 1.00.00 firmware on many 720p 29.97 fps mkv, but upgrading to 1.02.21 solved that issue.

Regarding to 23.976 fps videos I found out stuttering on only 2 videos. On the PC they play OK.

BTW, the file from above post works well, but from usb stick, I don’t have a lan connection.

Personally, I’m streaming the video through a wired network (Gigabyte) from a Synology NAS server (DS207+).

I got the issue only for few videos, however the same videos were working well with previous firmware.

In order to fully excluded a network issue, I tested the port used by my WD HD TV Live with an old 10/100Mbps laptop.

Read/Write access reached the 100Mbps speed limit (9,8Mos/s).

This issue is definitely coming from the WD TV Live.

I can’t test that file (since that file host won’t let me download it) but the fact that someone else played it okay is interesting.  What is the max bit rate of that file as you play it (look in VLC or some other player)?  It doesn’t really matter if other devices can play it – that’s apples and oranges.  We’re talking about the Live here.

And for sure I’d try network shares versus WHS – media servers are just nowhere as reliable IMHO.

Im watching 1080p content from external hdd, and this only happens with videos which frame rate is 29.97 for mkv, and no matter what frame rate for ts videos. Bitrate also doesn’t matter, it stutters on lower and higher bitrate videos.

I’ve found another interesting thing, when i push forward button and then play again, sometimes video become smooth.

File is AVC, bitrate 8 200 Kbps, profile High@L4.1, Audio is AC3 640 kbps, 6 channel.

You can download it by clicking on the free user button.

I have a feeling it may be the way the buffer is coded. I’m going to mess around today and see if I can FTP or telnet into the WD and look at code…

Actually I cannot (I started the download, power went out here, and now it won’t let me download it again unless I pay money – not going to do that :>).

All of my mkv files are H264, which the Live seems to digest well.

I have tried your video on my wireless g network and have no problems with the video. I did have some problem with the sound dropping out at 1min 20sec but (strangely) after playing it a couple of times it was perfect. The file was on a hard disc connected to a laptop downstairs and I watched via network shares on a wireless g network.

(I better mention that I am currently on .24 firmware while I do some tests)

Works fine here. I fast forwarded, rewound, jumped 10 seconds etc. Nice ad too!!! Can’t say about any audio synch issues as no faces singing. When fast forwarding the audio starts playing before the picture starts but it feels synchronised.

Streamed from Synology 207+ via powerline network.

Anyone got a small clip where you can see faces and have audio synch probs?

same problem.

MKV file stuttering on 1080i

especially on MKV file size 1G and up

the screen jump and no voice

agree. I’m streaming off a wired 1G switch and 1G NAS server.

still stuttering. other format seems to be ok.

Same problem here. I have firmware 1.04.10_V.

When I set the HDMI Video output to Auto, then 1080p is playing normal, but 1080i is stuttering.

When I set the HDMI Video output to 1080i, then 1080p is stuttering.

So I have to switch it manually instead of auto.
