Trying to revive WD DX4000

We have a WD DX4000 which was used in our data center until 2015. We migrated to cloud and have stopped using the data center infrastructure, however we still had all the hardware intact. A week ago we got all the hardware from the data center and I was trying to retrieve the content from the DX4000 4 drives 8TB version.

The drive startup – initialization was successful, however the display shows (searching… ) not sure what. The team which put up the DC is not with us anymore so I’m kind of in the dark now. WD DX4000 startup fails with error 0xD9.

I was searching this forum and found a lot of useful information, however I’m unable to download the recovery software. Can someone please let me know if there is a specific procedure to obtain the recovery software or if there is an option to use some third party software to recover the drive.

Wrong subforum. See the dedicated subforum for the DX4000.

WD Sentinel DX4000 is a different product than the My Cloud device(s).

Edit to add: Also see the following WD Support Knowledgebase Article which has more information on dealing with or solving issues with that device.

leaving servers dark that long likely means the disks are dead and need to be zeroed and formatted to bring them back into service

reason is that sector rot will destroy data in a couple of years and yours 6 years old, so forget recovery

tape can last for years but hard disks cannot do that
