Trying to get old files off WD Scorpio Blue but Windows 7 won't detect it

Hi!

I’m trying to get all my old files, pictures & music off of an old internal hard drive from a laptop with a broken screen.

The hard drive is the WD1600BEVS (160gb)

The new laptop is a Lenovo G570

I successfully hooked it up to an external usb mount and to my computer about a week ago, but when I tried again my computer didn’t aknowledge it was there. It doesn’t show up on devices and printers, or in the Disk Manager. I also couldn’t find any trace of it in any resonable location in the Device Manager.

So after hours of google searches, I’m starting to just believe it’s the power supply as the drive will only make a light whirring noise about every second without attempting to “take off” when I powered it on.

Can anyone tell me how to go about doing this? I’m slightly afraid to try and boot it hooked up internally in the new laptop, and even if I did, it would be in place of my current driver so I’d have no way to transfer the files anyway. Right?

Anyway, I’m brain dead after trying to get it to work. Any help from a magnificent unicorn out there will make my day!

Thank you. :>

Hello laurenVictoria,

Make sure that you are trying to connect the drive with a powered USB adapter.

If the drive is not showing in disk management, it might be a power issue.
