Trouble Ejecting My Book Elite 1.5 TB

Hello,

Whenever I try to eject my hard drive via the icon in the system tray in Windows 7, I constantly get an error message saying that the device is currently in use and that I should close any progrmas or windows that might be using the device, and then try again.  Does anyone know how I can fix this problem so that I may be able to safely eject my hard drive without running the risk of data loss? I also do not have WD SmartWare installed.  Thanks for your help.

I am having the same problem with my My Book Essential 1.5TB.

There is either another program running in the background you are unaware of or you are accessing the drive in another manner(you are unaware of). Close all windows and basic programs one by one to see if you are able to disconnect safely.
