Hey all - about to pull the trigger on a 8TB EX2 Ultra and relegating our 6TB Gen 1 MyCloud Mirror to being a secondary backup NAS. I’ve asked elsewhere about the ability of various WD NAS devices (result being a yes for the EX2 Ultra) to perform Remote Backups to the MyCloud Mirror. If this method of backing up isn’t that reliable, let me know!
The questions are:
-
What is the best method of migrating data and settings from the MyCloud Mirror to the EX2 Ultra?
Would this be a simple bulk copy over the network with a manual setup, or can a Configuration file saved by a Gen 1 Mirror be opened by an EX2 Ultra? As far as a bulk copy goes, can a drive be pulled from each, the (3TB) drive from the Mirror dropped into the vacant EX2 Ultra bay and expect it to rebuild onto the new (4TB) drive, pull when complete and replace the second 4TB drive for a subsequent rebuild? -
Are backups from one My Cloud device to another done “sensibly” when both devices are on the same local network? I’m kind of getting the impression that they won’t be, so backups could be slow as all hell.
I might be missing a better method or perhaps even expecting the devices to do something they aren’t able (or good at) doing. Not sure yet. It’s difficult to know the right questions or way ahead when I haven’t pulled the trigger on the EX2 Ultra yet. Open to being schooled in a friendly way of course I prefer to spend time being productive rather than having my head under the hood all of the time…
