Transferred files to new computer and now tells me I am not authorized to open them

I bought a new computer and backed up the old one on a WD My Passport.  I simply followed the registration and back up instructions the unit gave to me after I connected it to the old computer.  I then downloaded the files to the new laptop computer.  Now, every time I want to access a documents or separate photo file on the new computer it tells me that I do not have authorization to open the file and I have to go into the security protocols for every document and every single one of my 2000 photos and change the security access separately.  I want to avoid this ever, ever happening again.  What did I do that enabled this and how can I make sure that if my computer crashes, I am not stuck with having to do this again when I am forced to reload the files that have been backed up on the My Passport?  Is there a security protocol I can change/switch off on the WD My Passport that I can switch off or on to keep this from ever happening again?

Hello,

Check out this link in order to change the ownership by folders instead of files.
