Transfer speed woeful (Mac to MBLD on wired network)

Hi,

I’ve surveyed the other threads related to transfer speed and followed their instructions but haven’t seen any improvement in my situation.

I’m on a Macbook Air (2012) running OSX 10.7.5

The network is wired.

I can get 5MB/s backups going to an ancient Maxtor NAS.

The average speed copying to the MBLD is 10KB/s or below.

Using the WD supplied cable.

I’ve tried:

Adding the /etc/sysctl.conf trick

Using different interfaces (afp, smb, cifs)

What I haven’t tried is killing monitorio on the drive itself because people on Windows machines are generally not having this problem, if I’m understanding correctly. If the problem is only with the drive (resulting in Windows and Mac users complaining similarly), I’d accept that solution more readily.

Any new ideas out there? Success stories? I bought online as I live in Japan, so getting the unit replaced is problematic.

Try updating the firmware to the latest version also try connecting the MBLD to another MAC to see if you get the same transfer rate. Also check the link below for some recommendations.

Thanks Alucardx23.

The firmware is the latest available.

I’ll attempt soon to connect  another computer and test performance and report back.

The link provided addresses a different problem. It concerns getting optimal speed. I’m trying to boost speed up from a measly 10Kilobytes/s. In comparison, over the same network to another (ancient) drive I can get 500x this speed.
