Transfer speed drop down

I have bought a 5tb my passport yesterday

When i transfer files only the first file transfered with the full 110 or 120 mb speed

Starting from the second file the speed drops to 3mb with maximum of 30mb and average of 12mb

Is that normal?

I have been told that (SMR) and cache is the reason , so i transfered a 12 gb file and waited for 20 minute then started to transfer a 25 gb file and it started with very low speed maximum 20mb.

Open Task Manager → Performance → Disk while copying and watch Active time and response time. If the drive sits at 100% active time while writing only 10 to 30 MB/s, the HDD is likely doing internal SMR housekeeping or Windows is scanning the newly written data. Also try a different USB 3.x port and cable, then copy one large file from an SSD to the My Passport. If that still starts around 120 MB/s and quickly settles around 10 to 30 MB/s, that is much more consistent with the drive’s sustained write behavior than a faulty cable.
