Transfer pc files to mac

Hi all!

I’m not too literate with these things. I got a new mac book as a gift, but my files are all on my old pc. I would like to transfer these files to the mac book. I did pick up a new Western Digital Passport, but I have no idea where to begin.  Any help is greatly appreciated.

your mac has a completely different file system than your old pc.  that is if you’re using a windows pc.  first of all, you’ll need to determine which files can be transferred.  secondly, you’ll need to make sure that the passport is formatted to a file system that your mac can read.  you can also see if apple has a utility that will allow you to read your passport if it’s formatted ntfs.  you’ll need to talk to apple more about this.

If the old PC is Windows the external needs to be formatted NTFS. There is a utility for Mac Called NTFS-3G http://mac-free.com/download/NTFS-3G.html that should allow you to use the same drive on both the Mac and Windows.
