To Spin down or not?

Hello. I’ve read conflicting views on having a hdd spin down when not needed. I now use my WD Caviar Black as a storage drive, with an ssd as boot drive. A waste of a drive really. However I would prefer to turn it off, because it makes a slight hum when idleing.  Good or bad practice please. Or does it not matter. Cheers

It depends, a drive spins down to save power and extend life expectancy, but a lot of people complain about the noise it makes and the slow start-up when waking up. WD doesn’t have a tool to disable the spin down on a CB, but anyway it should not spin down at all since it has a set RPM.
