What if you try to install SMB on Lion while WD comes with ANOTHER update? At least you’ll have a workaround.

Server Message Block, or SaMBa has been the standard method for file sharing in computers between Windows, Mac and Linux for a long time, but Apple removed it from Lion in favor of SMBX, which favors performance on Apple-only devices but kills compatibility with almost anything else. This is the cause of ALL the networking problems with so many non-Apple devices by different brands.
There is a method to manually add the compatibility of SMB back to Lion, which fixes all networking problems without waiting for all of the non-Apple brands to make a firmware update to add that feature.
Can you direct me to where I can find out how to do this?
