Time Machine & GDRIVE mobile USB-C...."preparing BackUp"

Hi, first post
Just rec’d new GDRIVE 2TB .
I’ve got it past first BackUp ( FORMAT: macOS Extended Journaled encrypted)
iMac (late 2013) so can’t go pastCatalina 10.15.7
I’m only dealing with ~250GB sized BackUp.
But it takes hours and hours in …"preparing BackUp "

Thats an iMac issue, as the GDRIVE sits there waiting, not spinning, for Time Machine to tell it to Go.

(Ok it’s encrypted. Could that be the reason)

When i Shut the iMac down (GDRIVE not unplugged) , and then do a BackUp the next day with very
few File Changes, it needs long long time "preparing BackUp .

Is this just something i have to learn to live with ?

If i work with my iMac while it’s Preparing BackUp , is that likely to slow things down ?
