Time machine error after standby

Hi,

I’ve just just bought a “My passport For Mac” 4 TB for backup via time machine.

My problem is that after my iMac has been in standby mode it can’t do backup through my passport drive. I get a message that roughly translated says “Time Machine couldn’t finish the backup to my passport. An error occurred when the files were copied. This could be a temporary error. If the error persist you can repair it”

If I restart the computer or eject and re-enter the drive it works fine. This issue only occurs after standby mode.

I’ve scanned the drive with Appels utilities and WDs tools but both states that the drive has no errors.

I use high Sierra and have the latest updates. Up until now I’ve used a WD My Book without issues.

Anyone out the that can help?

I am only speculating. Perhaps when the iMac is on StandBy your iMac drive goes to sleep and the TM application fails to make a backup. See the below image: Put Computer Sleep to Never, uncheck the first option i.e. HDD sleep. Of-course there is this option ‘Power-Nap’. I have not tried it myself though it might solve your issue.
