Time Machine connected to the USB Port

Hi everyone,

Before I purchased the MyCloud I was using a small external hard drive for Time Machine backups.  I like the idea of keeping the Time Machine on a disk that I can directly connect to my Mac in case I need to use it in the the process of a system restore.

Has anyone tried setting an external drive connected to the My Cloud usb as their Time Machine target?  Can you then disconnect the drive and connect to your Mac and use as normal?

Hi,  yes, you should be able to select the USB drive to make the time machine backup, it will appear as a shared folder. I haven’t tested it my self, but it is possible that Time Machine will recognize the USB drive as a new destination. Maybe some of the other users can share some advice.
