Time Machine Back Up

I know this topic has been covered extensivley however I’m not able to find a simple solution to my question. What is the optimal configuration for data transfer when conducting a Time Machine Back Up? Ethernet from Mac to router and NAS or Wi Fi?

My experience: Time Machine backup to this NAS over Wifi runs fine (manual backups).

Other user’s: Time Machine backups over Wifi is not recommended.

Regardless, Time Machine can throw errors if the share that is used is also mounted

This is my initial back up which is about 172gb. Wi Fi back up is very slow…

I have to mount in in the finder to access the drive via wi fi??
