Theme for Small TVs

The default Mochi theme is nice, but too busy for small displays.  Thus I modified the theme to use larger thumbnails and fonts.  The theme is also designed around the WD TV’s automatic scrapper (the thing that fetches movie posters and information).

Download: smalltv.zip

Installation instructions:

  1. Download the file

  2. Turn on the WD TV, press the setup button.  Go to Network Settings → Network setup.  Look for the IP address.  It’s usually of the form “192.168.1.xxx” where  the last 3 digits are a number.

  3. Go to a computer on the same network, and enter the IP address into a web browser.

4)  Log in to the device.  If this is your first time logging in, then the default password is “admin”.

  1. Click on appearance, browse for the file “smalltv.zip”, and click submit.

6)  After a a few seconds, a confirmation message should appear.

  1. Go back to the WD TV.  Press the setup button.  Select Appearance → User Interface Themes.  Select “smalltv” even it’s already been selected, and press OK.  The theme should be properly loaded now.

Screenshots:

I had to use a camera to take screenshots, thus some of the images appear a bit dark and blurred.

Reduced the number of items, increased thumbnail size, and greatly increased the size of the unwatched icon.  The partially watched icon has been removed.  Added large selected title bar.  G/R/Y/B buttons still function normally. Darkened background.

Increased poster size.  Increased title size. Increased font size.  Removed scrolling thumbnail at bottom.  Increased speed when flicking through titles (left or right button).

All movie posters, descriptions, actors, image backdrops, etc, were automatically downloaded by the WD TV.  If it failed to find the title, then the manual procedure (Options button → Get Content Info) was used instead.

Edit:   Added some additional photos to demonstrate folder thumbnails (1,3,4) and user generated thumbnails (2)
