The media is write protected (19) - passport not accessible - need help

Is there anyone here that knows what the issue is, when receiving the message ‘the media is write protected (19)’ while trying to access My Passport?

No recovery software seems to be able to access data on the hard disk either.

Any advice is appreciated.

Thanx,

What OS are you using and did you install Smartware?

Joe

Hi, I have nearly the same problem, My desktop hard drive is not being recognised by My Computer, and if I try to access it using disk management it appears to be unallocated and needed for initialisation.  If I try to initialise the disk, a window shows up saying “The Media is Write protected” and that doesn’t allow me go any further.

Any suggestions…??  How did u solve your problem?

Thanks…

I have 2 TB WD My Book essential. Suddenly the devices has stopped working.

I tried using it on several machines with windows OS 7

The machine where i have installed smatware detected the drive and asks for password to unlock. (I never gave a password)

Other systems the disk is not detected. It shows a unallocated disk in Windows disk manager and suggests intailisation.

I tried recovering the data using various software, but i get an error as “The media is write protected”.

I just want to recover the data, its very very important.

Request to help asap.
