The best program to use to "download" 1080p content for streaming to the WDTV Live?

Hi Guys,

I am a new WDTV Live owner I want to watch some HD 1080p movie trailers, movies, chat shows, etc etc on my new WDTV kit. I no that the YouTube HD 1080p streaming seems to have “been disabled”, but what is the best program to use to “download” the HD 1080p clips to my PC folders so that I CAN see these videos in their HD glory?

I currently use Real Player but I don’t think that is working with my WDTV?

Anyone got any good suggestions?

Thank you!

M.J.

Hi M.J.

There several Firefox browser plugins that allow you to download videos on to your PC hard drive. The Firefox Video Download Helper works for me. Just do a Google search for video downloaders.

As for movies. Most folks make back-up copies of their DVDs by ripping them to a hard drive and playing them through the WDTV. I am a Mac user and there is a great product, Handbrake, that allows you to rip DVDs to a hard drive. I have heard there are similar products that work on Windows like AnyDVD.

Good luck!

WiLd.

This program allows you to select HD if available plus all other versions.

I download Youtube videos to my PC in MP4 format using a free program called Youtube downloader. You can get it here: http://youtubedownload.altervista.org/

I tried this a couple of weeks ago after seeing it mentioned here on the forums.  Simply didn’t work for any HD videos nor most standard def videos either.  Doh!

Checked the website and the latest version (1.9) is fixed.  For reference, I had previously tried v1.81.

It’s a handy tool but I hope they add the ability to create a download queue to future versions.
