Sync with local folder

So, from what I understand there’s no built in feature for syncing with local folder.

Has anyone been able to find a workaround for this? Perhaps there’s a 3rd party software to run on the laptop (Macbook pro in my case) that will automatically detect changes in the local folder or the network drive and sync them with the network drive when it’s connected (Dropbox style)?

I’m trying to get this to work with BitTorrent Sync. There is a post on this forum:
