Sync issue with mycloud duo

hi, a family friend has a mycloud duo and has found that the sync has stopped working properly.

i’ve logged a support ticket but it was closed with no update, a second ticket has been logged for a week with no response

further details are…the sync function has stopped working properly on my device. i am able to sync a folder on the PC over to the NAS which does appear to work and copies the contents to the NAS however any changes made to the folder or folder contents on the NAS are not replicated back to my PC. Can you please advise if this is how it should work or should the “sync” be two way as i’m expecting it to be?

additionally i’ve been asked to setup folder sync between three devices - essentially mirror a folder on my desktop PC to the NAS, which would then sync the same folder across to the my laptop… as far as i can tell this isn’t possible out of the box, does WD sync do this or do i need a 3rd party utility?

My Cloud Duo? What specific device does the friend have? There is a My Book Live Duo and the My Cloud Home Duo both of which are different than the My Cloud single bay device which is the general subject of this subforum. There are separate sub forums for those two devices here:

WD Sync is what it is. If one searches this subforum they’ll find numerous complaints and issues with that software when attempting to sync with a single bay My Cloud device. If one does not need remote syncing then there are a number of third party sync programs that may be a better fit depending on one’s needs. Free File Sync (https://freefilesync.org/) is one such free program popular with some here.

hi, its a my cloud home duo, i’ll repost in the device specific forum

regarding WD sync, i’m not sure exactly what you by remote syncing, does remote mean anything not on the local machine or not on the same LAN? my friend has this setup / requirement

a desktop PC, with a folder in her “my documents” folder “synced” to the NAS

if possible, she’d like to have this folder synced to a laptop on her LAN so she can make changes to the files on either machine

Remote syncing generally means syncing files/data to a My Cloud located off site in another location. Generally third party sync programs cannot remote sync to a My Cloud using protocols other than the very insecure FTP protocol.

Attempting to use WD Sync in the method desired, syncing two different computers to one single repository location is a mixed bag. For some it works, for others it does not. Typically what happens is the WD Sync program on each computer fights over trying to control the sync location on the My Cloud. A forum search (magnifying glass icon upper right) will yield several past discussions on attempting to use WD Sync in such a fashion (sync two computers to one single location on My Cloud).
