Subtitles still have to be forced playing iso. Every time!

It is like 10 updates ago, in version 1.02.someting, that subtitles came automatically playing iso. After that we have had to force subtitles every single time with the “option”-button. Four extra push on the remote to get the subtitles!

If I change resolution from mp4 bluray-rip to dvd-iso-rip(wich we have to every single time because auto doesn´t work too well) and I want to see a drama-movie with subtitles I have to push like 40  times on the remote. That´s the hard thing with this wdtv. All the pushing. My finger bleeds every day.

1.02.xx didn’t support DVD ISO the same way.

1.03.xx and higher now supports DVDs in native DVD mode.

So you have to interact with the DVD menu to use subtitles, or use the OPTIONS button.

If you don’t want to do that, then turn off DVD Menus, and it will play the same way it did before in 1.02.xx

That’s a way of looking at it. But when my DVD standalone defaults to subtitles on, even when there’s menus on the DVD, a sub will be displayed automatically. Usually the german one cause the player recognizes this and also displays the german menus.

@tinuadmin

BTW, have you tried MKV instead of MP4 containers? Blu-Ray content works just fine in MKV, they even added PGS support in the latest firmware.

How can I interact with the dvd menus? How can I turn dvd menus off?

You know, I have one - 1 and only one subtitle on my movie rips. I really wish that this subtitle could be recognized by the wdtv. All dvd-players, including very cheap chinese US $ 20 dvd-player always recognice the subtitle if there is only one subtitle on the dvd or on the memory card. I can´t imagine why this should be such a problem to implement. Especially because the wdtv needs a more simple way to reduce the number of remote tapping.

No, I have not tried mkv. My mp4-files play perfect after adjusting the resolution on the wdtv. Subs and sound and everything is like a dream come through. It´s when changing to iso dvd the problem start. My mother in law cannot find subtitles, my son cannot find subtitles, and neither one can change the resolution back to dvd-resolution on the wdtv. It´s a pain, but it is worth it som far. But as soon as there comes a mediaplayer that is made specially for usb-hdd, and works like a charm, then I will change.

It’s weird that it’s not working for you cause subtitles did from day 1. Since dvd menu support has been introduced, one can navigate the menu by pressing Option and selecting menu. This way you can select the audio submenu of the DVD and select wanted streams. HOWEVER, any DVD ISO I’ve ripped so far (menu or not) can cycle through streams present, by selecting option and then audio or subtitle.

hi there

check those [after passing one operation pls check subtitles activity] :

  • return on screen to your factory settings [push button hide close to usb 1 or on screen follow the option in page “settings”]

  • check  language version on screen in settings

  • check subtitles on or of on screen in settings

  • hdmi connection ?

  • check video and set to “auto”

  • is your dvd original or ripped - ok - you have mentione subtitles are in-there b’caise stand-alone dvd plays them…

Yes, I can navigate the menu by pressing Option and find the subtitle that way. But because my rips have only one audio and only one subtitle the wdtv should find the subtitle without navigating the menu. Wdtv finds the audio. I don´t have to navigate the Option/menu to find the audio. Why should it be so difficult for the wdtv to start subtitle automatically when it is so easy to find the audio automatically. I just don´t get it.

And like I said, a 20 US dollar chinese dvd-player always find the subtitles without any use of software. It is just to start the movie, either a dvd or a file on a micro sdhc-card on these chinese players that probably cost 1 dollar to produce, and they find both audio and subtitle automatically. I know, cause I have tested several. It should not be neccarsary in 2011 to navigate the menu to find the basic information in a file - the movie with the single subtitle.

Hi

  • I did reset to factory default

  • The language version is english(settings - system settings - language(english)

  • Subtitle default is “on” in video settings

  • hdmi connection is

          575 x 50 hz

          Auto

  • My dvd is ripped, with subtitle

Result. No subtitle. Have to use the Option and push 5 - five times before subs apear. “Option”, “left arrow”, “left arrow”, “enter”, and then “Option”.

Easy, elegant and simple? No!

hi

ok

seems “not quite” right may I say so.

but pls try this :

  • check [not the language of a sustem as a whole]   secondary language subtitles version - you can find it in options on screen as “Western” or “1250” or others ] - check and try.

Hi - and thanks for trying

I guess what I am looking for is “additional encoding support” under “system settings”? There I have tried “Western Europe”, “Central Europe(Windows 1250)” and “Central Europe(ISO)” .

None of these make any different in any movie.

Thanks
