Subfolders are empty after WD updates

I recently unplugged my “Cloud Home” drive because I was moving it to a new location. When I turned it back on it requested an update. I use this as my back-up (#2) to my back up (#1).
When I went to access it today ( as I noticed I had a problem with a file on back up #1)
All my folders are there, but all the subfolders are empty. They are still there and labeled, but no files are in them. I’ve tried accessing them from online, through the desktop app, through finder, ) I’m on a Mac.
Is there any way to access these folders? I lost a years worth of press releases and posters.
So does this mean I need another back-up (#3) for my backups???
