I’m confused about the OS 5 upgrade. Is it for remote access or is it for Windows 10 access to the cloud server? Does the Android app need to be updated also?

Update your device to OS5, look at link below. Once installed set your device up using the Dashboard. It not only works with Windows 10 but also Windows 11!

From the instructions on the link, you gave me. It’s like item #5 Things to know One Way Migration.
So is the upgrade to OS 5 for Windows 10 access thru explorer? Sorry for keep asking but it’s got me confused. I just want to make sure of what I’m doing since the warning is a non-returning or undo situation.
I’m using FreeFile to keep my documents folder copied to my cloud.

The OS5 upgrade is for upgrading the firmware of supported My Cloud devices to v5.x firmware. After updating to OS5 one will use the OS5 web portal (https://os5.mycloud.com/sessions/new) for remote access, or OS5 WD My Cloud app for iOS and Android for remote/local network access. For local network access using Windows or Mac OS you should not need to do anything new. You should be able to access the local network OS5 My Cloud using Windows File Explorer or Mac Finder or any mobile file manager app for iOS/Android.
Yes. You would uninstall the OS3 My Cloud app and install the OS5 My Cloud app.

Well now I went to do the update to OS 5, but I don’t get the option. Yesterday when I updated the firmware to the latest, it asked to the update, I answered later because I wasn’t sure of the purpose. How do I get that option back now?

What does the My Cloud Dashboard indicate for a firmware version number?
If your My Cloud indicates firmware 04.05.00-353 or any other 04.x firmware then your My Cloud unit cannot be updated to the OS5 v5.x firmware.

The firmware is 2.41.121. HOWEVER, I somehow have lost my wifi connection to the cloud server, which might have something to do with the OS 5 update not showing. Do I need to run the WD WIndows discovery software? I didn’t have problems until after I did a firmware update and a change in my wifi adapter driver.

If you have a single bay/single drive My Cloud, what color is the front LED? Blue or some other color?
Can you access the My Cloud Dashboard by it’s IP address?
If you changed your wifi driver on your computer then that may be a possible issue. If using Windows ensure the Network Type is configured to Private and that SMB 1.0/CIFS is enabled (within Windows)…
The drive light is solid blue. Yes, I can access my dashboard. I made sure that the SMB 1.0 was checked. I did find my network public and changed it private and now I get my cloud back in Win Explorer. The simple things I forget from being stable for years.
