Streaming issue with the new TuneIn Radio / RadioTime feature

After patiently waiting for WD to add generic internet radio streaming capability, I was thrilled to see that the new firmware release for the WDTV Live Plus includes TuneIn Radio.

I was able to find all my favorite stations, and they play fine with one exception (of course, the station I listen to most).

When I attempt to play the WAMC-FM stream, it plays the normal introductory/pledge drive spiel and then quits without actually going to the live stream. If I try to play it in my browser from RadioTime.com, it works fine. It must be something with the way the WDTV TuneIn app handles multi-item audio stream playlists.

I was able to determine the actual URL(s) of the live stream, and I even tried adding those as custom URL’s via my RadioTime account. Still no go - I get the “This folder contains no media” error message.

Any info or advice will be much appreciated.

Maybe you should try contacting WD’s Technical Support about this. You can do so either by phone or email.

Thanks, Trancer. I’ll try contacting WD tech support about this.

I wasn’t sure where to post this, but I figured the Firmware section was appropriate because this feature was just introduced in the latest firmware release. Know what I mean?

btw, I suspect this isn’t just an issue with the one radio station I mentioned in my post. Rather, I think it’s probably gonna be an issue with any radio station that utilizes a multi-item playlist.

thanks again,

JohnB

I have come across one station (can’t remember which one) which would not play, I got a advert for the station “saying visit ???.com” and then the station quit, maybe I went to the site when they were not broadcasting or it could be related to above ???.

Yes, that’s the exact same symptom that I get with WAMC: it plays the introductory spiel MP3 file, and then quits without going to the live stream. If you can remember the station, please post it here so I can include that info when I try to deal w/ WD tech support.

As I said in my original post, I suspect that the WD version of the TuneIn app can’t deal with multi-item playlists. I bet if you go to that station’s website, download the .pls playlist file and look at it in Notepad, it will look something like ths:

[playlist]
File1= http://stream.publicbroadcasting.net/production/mp3/wamc/local-wamc-921137.mp3
Title1=WAMC Public Radio Intro
Length1=17
File2= http://pubint.ic.llnwd.net/stream/pubint_wamc
Title2=WAMC Public Radio Stream
Length2=-1
NumberOfEntries=2
Version=2

Hopefully WD will be able to fix this bug, or get the TuneIn people to fix it.

If you click it does file2 play for you on your computer. It seems to try on my computer.

Yes, if I open that 2nd URL in my browser the live stream will play no problem. Also works if I open it in Windows Media Player. So it definitely points to a valid audio stream.

Anyway, as a test I installed the Blackberry version of TuneIn on my wife’s phone, and WAMC plays fine. So this is definitely an issue with the WD version of the TuneIn app. Most likely it can’t deal with multi-item .pls playlists.

Hopefully WD will be able to fix this.
