Still have no idea what the Dummy File is used for?

After reading several threads on the subject I still do not know what the use of a dummy file is exactly. Can anyone enlighten me? - Thanks

its not a neccessary function.

its created so if on your remote you accidently click option-get info… it overwrites the dummy file instead of the data being used for the movie sheet.
