Please help.

I have a My Book Essential. I installed the Smartware software on my Dell laptop and used it to back up my entire laptop. Yay!

Then I moved the My Book Essential to my iMac. I know the Smarware software does not work on the iMac, so I figured I’d just use Time Machine instead. But when I click to turn it on, it warns me that it will delete EVERYthing in my external hard drive.

  1. Is it possible to backup both computers?

  2. If so, please explain it in simple directions. I’m a computer dummy.

That’s because the my book you have is formatted on NTFS witch is not compatible with Mac. Follow the link below to make it compatible with both.
