I have question in regards to Smartware. I want to use this drive on my Bell 6131 satellite receiver when you plug in it wants to format the drive will this remove the Smartware software on the drive? It formats the drive with a Linux type partition. One more question does the Smartware allow you to adjust and disable power management functions?
WD has only tested our SmartWare drives with computers so we could not say whether your Satellite receiver could see the drive. We do know that reformatting a drive will not remove SmartWare, however. That said, you could use SmartWare to alter the drive’s power management functions.
We do make a line of externals for use with DVRs and that is the MyBook DVR Expander as well as the Passport A/V. Have you considered either of those?
