SmartWare won't install by opening it from the external drive

Even after I double click the install file from the external drive itself, it will install it into my mac instead and then when it opens, it only shows my computer drive not my externam drive.

i did this after reformatting my drive since i lost the original.

I followed instructions given below in another thread posted in 2011.

Downloaded it, double clicked the dmg file, dragged the contents of the file into my external drive, then double clicked it the install file from inside the drive… still.

It’s driving me crazy.

That’s the way it’s supposed to work, Smartware goes installed on the Mac hard drive. Once you have Smartware installed, from the home tab click on the hard drive to make the backup and retrieve tabs accessible.
