Smartware user interface will not open

Updated a Lenovo laptop from Windows 8 to 8.1 and now Smartware will not open. When I go to Task Manager, I see that it is running in the background and using computer resourses. But when I try to open Smartware, I get a message that reads:

_ Provide value on ‘System.Windows.Baml2006. TypeConverterMarkupExtension’ threw an exception. _

All other programs are fine and operating correctly. I have used the repair feature on the program…didn’t help. I have uninstalled it, updated the laptop, rebooted it and then installed it again from the WD downloads web page and still the user interface will not open on the desktop and I get the same message as stated above. Any ideas on how to correct this problem?
