I have a MyBook external [Windows 7] and am currently using WD Smartware for the sleep timing feature ONLY, as I use other software for backup. I have heard that this software is a resource hog, and would like to remove it, but will I still be able to customize the sleep timer? I know you can adjust sleep time for drives in Windows’s Power Options, but doesn’t that affect all attatched hard drives? I use my drive only for backup and would like it to sleep at all other times.

If you hide the VCD the unit will keep the settings and go to sleep at the setup time.
