Smartware dangerous for external drives

Greetings,

just wanted  to  warn here before using WD Smartware SMART status reporting.

I have achieved with one o my external drives considerably high temperature recently (64°C reported by Crystal disk info was  highlighted in RED as very dangerous)

At once disk temperature reported by WD smartware status icon was reported as OK !

This is very dangerous as temperatures over 60 °C are killing hard drives !

Also I’d be glad to hear any statement from WD about this Smartware behavious

OK I just managed that external drivesh should be turned off by 65°C

But is it really safe to run myBook drive at 64°C ???

Or are WD external drives more resistant against overheating generally??

There’s many sources warning to operate hard drives at temperatures over 55°C !

So where it is possible to setup 1st thermal threshold…
