4tb My Cloud user here – When I upgraded to 5, I immediately noticed that the drive was nearly unusable when web access was enabled. I’m not just talking about the insanely (and seemingly useless) Indexing that significantly hinders performance. I’m talking about even after indexing is complete.
Right now, I’ve trying to load the MyCloud admin panel and it’s been loading for…minutes. Sometimes, if I’m lucky, it’ll partly load and I can see my ram, cpu, and storage available, but most of the time, it just gets stuck. Unfortunately, when it’s stuck, I lack the ability to turn off web access. If/when I do turn off web access, the drive immediately begins to speed up and function as expected.
Of course, it’s not just the web interface that has been slowed down. Performance is so slow that I can only sometimes access the drive over the network.
Please help – I’d love for the web access to work, but at the very least, I’d love to again take control of the drive so I can actually use it.
EDIT:
Finally I got control of the drive again (seemingly by random chance) and I was able to turn off Cloud Access. It was (again) stuck at 99% indexing.
As to how to fix it, if turning off remote access and media services either doesn’t fix the issue or is unacceptable then one will likely have to wait for WD to fix (if ever) this indexing issue that has affected many. If one uses the forum search feature (magnifying glass icon upper right) they’ll find numerous other complaints about people’s My Cloud units becoming unusable after updating to OS5.
One unofficial and absolutely not supported by WD option is to try and revert back to the OS3 firmware. One does so at their own risk!!! Backup any personal data from the unit before attempting to do so. One can use the forum search feature to search the OS5 subforums to find various past discussions on reverting or rolling back to the OS3 firmware.
