Skip episodes or songs on music DVD's

Any ideas how to skip episodes/songs after having copied a series or music DVD to the hard drive - all are copied into .VOB format 

i have tried makeMKV but getting a fatal error message and shuts down

You don’t cause the Live only plays back the largest title. Either make MKVs with MKVToolnix or one VOB per title.
