Size limitation to upgrade my good ol' G-Raid 12Tb Thunderbolt3

Hey guys,

After scouring the internet far and wide, I’m taking the liberty of asking my question here.
I have a good old G-Raid 12 TB Thunderbolt 3 (2x 6Tb) drive purchased in 2018, configured in RAID 1, but it’s starting to run out of space. Since I don’t want to upgrade it to a NAS or buy a traditional external hard drive, what’s the maximum hard drive size I can put in it? Since the prices of the Seagate IronWolf Pro 16 TB drives have dropped significantly, I’d like to put two in it to replace the two original 6 TB drives.

Another question: if I don’t want to lose the current data on my G-Raid, I imagine I should leave one of the two 6 TB drives in one of the racks and put a new Seagate IronWolf Pro 16 TB drive in the other rack so that the copy can be done automatically?

Thank you in advance for your feedback.

I have a G-RAID 12TB Thunderbolt 3 (2x6TB) drive in RAID 1 and need more space. The enclosure should support larger drives like the Seagate IronWolf Pro 16TB, but compatibility with the specific model and firmware should be checked. To upgrade without losing data, I can replace one 6TB drive with a 16TB drive, let the RAID rebuild, then replace the second 6TB drive with the other 16TB drive and let it rebuild again. This keeps the data intact during the process.
