Greetings! I have three external drives connected to my Windows 10 computer, all of which are locked. I have a “My Book”, an older My Passport Ultra, and a newer My Passport Ultra.
When I first turn on the syste and go to “This PC”, I can see the three drives attached, all displayed by their drive letter and the name “WD Unlocker”. When I double click the icons? Two of them launch the unlocker application. The third one opens a folder on the disk where “WD Drive Unlock.exe” resides and I have to click it manually.
Once they are unlocked, everything works fine. It’s an annoyance, though, that one of them doesn’t launch the unlocker right away.
I think the culprit is the “My Book” but I’m not 100% sure.
Has anyone seen this before? It started once I installed Windows 10 on my computer.
It would be best to individually connect your hard drives in order to isolate the one behaving this way, but it sounds like an older unit. Hardware revisions affect how the WD Unlocker behaves, but such revisions are physical and can not be updated via firmware.
Not sure but I think this started when I upgraded from Win 7 to 10. Have a MyBook 4TB WCC4EN that requires the CD Drive “WD Unlocker” to be activated to gain access to the drive. It does not require a password. Just have to double click then exit. In the past, I just had to do this when I re-booted. Now I notice every time my pc comes out of hibernation, I have to repeat this “WD Unlocker”. This is annoying. And it means that backups and maintenance to occur during downtimes or overnight are not happening because its locked!
I have updated the Firmware, installed WD Drive Utilities and WD Smartware. Nothing I can find solves my problem.
