I had a Gen 1 WD TV for a year and it just died, no big deal it was a hand me down from a frend. I just ordered a WD TV Live Plue and I am planing to hook it up to a 3.5" drive running in a USB case. I would like to turn off the drive when I not using the system. What is the correct steps in powering off the drive?
Do I need to eject the drive before shutting of the WD TV or can I just shutdown then power off the drive.
To be safe, you should eject the drive before powering down.
I just power the unit off…(too lazy…)
However that advice is usefull because everytime i put the usb enclosure on the
desktop pc, the filesystem (ext3) has errors… (nothing of importance, of course, ext3’s fsck fixes them properly).
I do eject things i hot-remove from the unit but for the main usb enclosure (nexstar cx usb/esata w/2TB green) i just asume that the unit unmounts all filesystem uppon power-off. If it is not the case, it is a BUG. there is no reason for the unit to not to umount any filesystem when powering off…
