I can’t find a way to shut down my WD My Cloud one bay with OS5 and the latest firmware 5.31.102. How is it done?
@CrisRich58
Unplug the power from the back of the device. To start it back up plug the power back in.
I saw some posts here from the end of 2021 about this subject. It looks that WD didn’t change anything since then about this issue.
Just unplug the NAS without knowing if it’s just writing something to the hard disk? Great way to design a NAS product!

WD removed the shutdown button on some unit’s firmware. In those cases there were workarounds that involved either using a web browser to unhide the hidden shutdown button using the browser’s “inspect” option. Or use SSH and issue the shutdown command via command line interface.
Using SSH:
shutdown.sh

The following video explains how to shutdown a My Cloud if no shutdown button is present in the Dashboard:
Granted that my EX4 is on OS3, but pressing and holding the power button for a few seconds does initiate a graceful shutdown.
Have you tried that?
The initial poster appears to have indicated they have a single bay My Cloud (2nd gen). The single bay My Cloud doesn’t have a power button or power switch. Its a long standing complaint of that device.
Here is an image of the device being discussed in this topic.
Great video, thank you for the link. 4 years later and the problem is still there. Even after many firmware updates. They probably kept it hidden because of the lack of a physical power button, which makes it awkward to restart. So, the best solution for this problem is: get rid of this equipment and get something else.
