Should pwd from OS3 work for OS5?

Downloaded OS 5 for my iPhone. Unable to login using MyCloud.com credential. Do I need to create new account? Or do I need to upgrade my MyCloud device to OS5 in order to login to OS 5 app? that just doesnt make sense to me since MyCloud login credential should be independent of what device I am using?

My Cloud OS 5 Online User Manual (wdc.com)

Yeah but that doesnt answer my question… Why didn’t the login credentials work for OS 5 APP?

I gave you the information, you should have read it. My Cloud OS3 is EOS!!! My Cloud OS5 is a completely new OS. If you can update your device to OS5 it should have already been done. You can do it now manually!!! If you had read the Online User Manual and the instructions to update to OS5 you should have read this. See image below.

A phone with an OS5 app will not open the old My Cloud that has OS3!!!

My Cloud (mycloud.com)

New OS
New App
New Accounts
New emails
New passwords

so i need completely new account name and/or email adress? Or can I regist an OS5 account with those from OS3?

@cska133
Have you looked at and read any of the information, with the links provided, in the above replies?

yes, and the first link is not relevant to my question. The second link are plenty of forum questions. And the third is the info from your screenshot.
But nothing answers my question can I take the email adress connected to OS3 and create an OS5 account. Or am I missing something?

Did you try it?

It either will like it; or it won’t .

If I recall; the Admin accounts and user accounts need different email addresses (Moronic. . but true)

Depends on what your original password was. There are more requirements for an OS5 password than there were for an OS3 password.

I don’t think the original credentials will work at all.

as i understand from the info links firstly one needs to create admin account (user name and pasword) for the mycound device. Then it is optional to create/setup cloud access (needs names and email adress) - this is not a must.

Blockquote * The Setup Cloud Access page appears. Click Continue to set up cloud access.
If you wish to skip cloud access setup, click Skip cloud access .

In my case I use the Mycloud only in my local network via WLAN, so no access outside of my LAN. It means I can skip the cloud access setup. Am I right?

While some of the information may not apply to what you want to know, you jumped on the OP topic. You should have created your own topic.

It’s best to think of a device running OS/3 and a device running OS/5 as COMPLETELY NEW AND DIFFERENT. The only common point is that you are using the same hardware, and the “conversion” process allows you to Port existing data that resides on the HDD’s.

The phone app; the web app, and all the credential management stuff are new.

MOST of the changes between the OS’s are in the area of credentials and access.
This is deliberate; as the original OS3 had a number of notable security vulnerabilities.

(The other major area of change relates to indexing and caching of files for remote access)

In my case I use the Mycloud only in my local network via WLAN, so no access outside of my LAN. It means I can skip the cloud access setup and do not need to regist with email adress. Am I right?

You don’t need the internet as long as you don’t want any updates or notices of improvements that may be made for the device!

You can still access the content on the drive in your file manager from your desktop (as a network drive), but you will no longer have the access on your cell phone app, even within your home network.

Yeah when they said “you will lose access remotely” I thought I could still access the content on my cellphone via the app within my home network which is actually not the case. Their info is very misleading.
The situation is like when you upgrade your iOS or Android to a higher version each time you need to create an new account. Very ugly design but I guess their OS3 system is so bad that they couldn’t fix it so they just ask you to create a new account instead. Sigh…
BTW thanks all for your reply. @NAS_user @cat0w @ sktn77a

We could have a long conversation regarding the software functionality decisions WD made regarding OS/5.

While you likely won’t be able to use the OS3 mobile app one can use any other free or paid file manager app to access a local network My Cloud when WD ends support in April. One may not get certain features with other file manager apps but they will at least allow mobile access to one’s local network My Cloud (or other NAS devices).
