Security utilities on Passport formatted for mac

I have a 1TB Passport formatted for MAC and have transferred all my music, pictures and older documents it.  Can I still download the WD Smartware and use it on this drive or is it too late?

If you have one of the newer Passport models, Smartware is not supported on Mac. You can still have access to the drive features by installing the WD Drive Utilities for Mac app or WD Security for Mac.

Trusting one drive with important data is a bad idea no matter who makes the drive internal or external.
