Security problem - Private folder security - they are not private

I’m back and I’m still stuck on my quest to have a private media folder.

Here we go:

Problem:

I can view the private folder and files without entering a username and password via iphone, ipad and Humix HDR-FOX T2.

This is not secure.

To reproduce:

  1.    Create new User called “Private” with strong password.

Set “Create private share for this user.”  - Yes

Set “Allow access to existing shares.” - No

  1.    Create new share called “Private”.

Set “Media Serving” - All

Set “User Access” - Private

  1.   Give User “Private” access to “Private” share.

Do not give any other user access to “Private”.

  1.    Add private files to “Private”.

  2.    Now goto any wireless display device and try to view the “Private” folder and you can, without having to enter a username or password.

What can I do to secure a folder on the “My Book Live”?

Any ideas?

What’s a wireless display device?

And what protocol is such a device using to connect to this private share?

I have a number of private shares defined on my MBL, and every one of my SMB clients are required to provide a UID/PW to access them (iPad / iPod / streamers/ PCs, etc…)

But if you’re accessing them via a DLNA client, OF COURSE it’s not going to ask for a UID / PW because there is no such thing when it comes to DLNA.

BTW, you need to have patience.   Bumping posts after barely six hours is pretty annoying.

How do you get your SMB clients to access the BML? Ie macbook pro or iphone?

I got it working from macbook and pc.

Just wondered how to get access to MBL from ipad or iphone.
