I have two new WD Black hard drives. I am attempting to install them on a Linux system (Clear Linux), but they both have an input/output error. These are brand new hard drives right out of the box. I have tried different SATA ports and cables, so I am certain that isn’t the issue. I was able to initialize and format them on my Windows 10 machine, but when I connect them to my linux box they fail.
Here is some output to show what errors I’m getting.
sudo smartctl -a /dev/sda
smartctl 7.1 2019-12-30 r5022 [x86_64-linux-5.4.54-54.lts2019] (local build)
