Same problem

I didn’t know that there are so many people with the same issue, my WD 1 TB  external started this problem a month ago, I have over 500 GIGs of important information on it, I’ve tried everything for about a week, to no avail…I was so pissed that i just put it away until now. I decided to go online to see if theres a solution to it. It has never been dropped, the usb plug is not bent, the light comes on, I can hear the hard drive spins, but its not being reconized on the computer, I’ve tried it on 2 other computers and it does the same thing, I DO NOT WANT TO REFORMAT it because I have so much important records on it, I will never buy a WD again, I pray I find a recover program to grab all my info again, If i find a solution I’ll post, If anyone has recovered from this issue please explain how you did it, To WD if i cannot get my info again, I will be requesting re-enburstment. And I will never but your product again.

That’s kinda why WD says to always “safely remove” the drive – to prevent corruption.  WD can’t really help it if people can’t be bothered.  Also, the USB-powered drives tend to behave poorly when they don’t get sufficient power from the host.

Try to use CGSecurity TestDisk to repair the corrupted drive.

That’s kinda why all data specialists (as well as WD) strongly recommend having backups of important data.

Good luck with that.

And that’s why, my friend, you should  always  keep a backup of your important data. If you don’t have it on at least 2 different places at the same time then you’ll run out of luck at some point as the drive is not going to tell you when it will stop working…

Make sure you run Win-DLG.  This will tell you whether or not there is a physical issue with the drive.

If the issue is physical, you likely will not be able to recover data using software.  If the issue is only logical, you may want to try the tool Tony has suggested.
