Safe to run with laptop?

I edit a blog about run commuting and we get a lot of questions about running with laptops. Can anyone help answer these questions?

  • Is it safe to run with a laptop in a backpack without causing damage to the hard drive?
  • Are there specific hard drives WD manufactures that are better suited to these conditions?

The laptop would be on its side and vertical within the backpack, resting against the runner’s back. To add some data to go along with our questions:

My normal morning run is 45 minutes long and I take approximately 5400 running “steps” (aka, vertical bounces.)

Thanks in advance!

Go for SSD and not HD.

SSD is virtualy undestructible unless you physicaly crunch it.

A fast and relaible 240Gb SSD can be found arround 110€

Thanks!
