Retrieving PC laptop data from Passport WD2500XMS-00 on Macbook Pro OS X

Hello anyone who can help!

I bought this model Passport several years ago and used it back up data on my Gateway laptop that I bought in 2006.  In 2009 I went to Europe and have a ridiculous amount of pictures and school work etc that I’d like to retrieve.

I plugged in the WD Passport and my Macbook recognizes the passport, but won’t run any of the .exe files or WDSync files that it happens to recognize (and to be honest I don’t even know if I need to be trying to install anything or just treat this passport like a giant flash drive).  Then when I click through sub folders I actually found one file that used to be my desktop background.  So I feel like its recognizing the data, but I don’t know how to access any of my old files.

I tried downloading this updated:

I think it just installed a program to help back up the data on this Macbook Pro.

So I’m saying I’m lost - if anyone can help, I’d much appreciate it.

Thank you

-Michael

Hi try plugging it into a none Mac PC ie a windows one.

I don’t own a PC anymore.  Any other tips?

I called the hotline earlier tonight, apparently you have to have a PC first to recofigure the device to be both compatible on a PC and a Mac.  If you try to configure the device from a Mac first - you have to erase all the data.  **Will update when I complete the process.

So a search on Linux Live CD and see if there is one that will wotk on a Mac. It might allow you to access the data. I don’t know much about Macs. See if any of these suggestions work
