Retrieving Data From Dead My Cloud

I have 2tb my cloud that I recently hooked up after a few years of no use to pull the data from it. Upon starting it up, it had solid white light and it remained that way. I tried everything suggested in the forums to try and get it past this stage but nothing worked. I eventually found that you can remove the drive and read the files using Unbuntu. I am able to view the drive and see my folder just fine, the problem is that they have a lock on them and permissions will not let me access them. Has anyone come across this issue and found solution to be able to read the files?

I have my credentials still from when I set them up on my cloud but when I try to open the folders it doesn’t prompt for anything. These are family photos and are really important. If I have to send to data recovery specialist I will but I really don’t want to pay the premium for it if I can avoid it.

If you have a My Cloud device, not a My Cloud Home, you can see if using the root level (sudo or similar) commands in the Linux boot operating system on the PC the My Cloud hard drive is connected to, and change the ownership permissions (ex chmod 777) on the files you have copied off the My Cloud.
