Two questions:
Should the power be set off on the WD
I know the unit works, because I back up another PC
How do I get to see a single file on the WD?:robotindifferent:
Smartware is not designed to backup your program folders. It merely backs up My Document folders with selected file types. And you can’t see files outside of Smartware application on the backup set. In other words, you need Smartware to restore these backed up files.

Thank you, that answers my question .
I shut down my pc every night and then put it on the next day, that means the WD is going on and off.
Should I shut it off and only put it on when I want to use it?
If I leave it on steady will it doing any harm?

It is always good idea to keep external backup drives power down when you don’t use them. But don’t disconnect micro USB ports (drive side) very often.
If you need to disconnect, pull USB plug from PC.
